The Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has questioned the State government's decision to initiate a preliminary inquiry into a 20-year-old corruption allegation against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The inquiry by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) concerns a suspected suicide death in 2006. BJP MLA B.B. Gopakumar stated that the delayed action raises suspicions and highlighted what he called "double standards" in handling cases, contrasting this inquiry's haste with the slower pace in other investigations.
