Meghalaya Delegation Finds Garo WWI Graves in Malta

A Meghalaya delegation led by Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma has identified the graves of three additional Garo men who served in the First World War at the Pieta Military Cemetery in Malta. Previously, only one Garo serviceman's grave was known at the Commonwealth-maintained cemetery. These men were part of the 69th Garo Labour Company, which supported Allied operations. This discovery highlights the significant, yet often overlooked, contributions of Garo Hills soldiers to the global war effort and strengthens the historical connection between Meghalaya and early 20th-century world events.
