Traders Shift From Equity F&O To Commodities As Participation Surges
Economic Times Markets · stocks
The number of traders in India's commodity derivatives market has surged by nearly 60% in FY26, while equity futures and options participation has declined by about 20%. Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath noted this trend, attributing the shift partly to heightened volatility in commodities like gold, silver, and crude oil. He also suggested that the growth of options trading on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and extended trading hours, which allow positions based on international market movements, are attracting traders.
