The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that the University Grants Commission (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026, are under reconsideration. Earlier, on January 29, the Supreme Court had directed that these regulations be kept in abeyance. This development indicates a potential review of the existing equity framework in higher education institutions across India, with further decisions pending the reconsideration process.

केंद्र सरकार ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट को बताया है कि यूनिवर्सिटी ग्रांट्स कमीशन (हायर एजुकेशन इंस्टीट्यूशंस में समानता को बढ़ावा देना) रेगुलेशंस, 2026 पर फिर से विचार किया जा रहा है। इससे पहले, 29 जनवरी को सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने इन नियमों को स्थगित रखने का आदेश दिया था। यह कदम भारत भर के उच्च शिक्षा संस्थानों में समानता के मौजूदा ढांचे की समीक्षा का संकेत देता है, और आगे के फैसले पुनर्विचार प्रक्रिया के बाद ही लिए जाएंगे।
