India Ramps Up Coal Deliveries To Power Plants Supply Expected To Normalise Soon
Business Standard · business
India is set to normalise coal supply to its power plants soon, with a senior official stating record daily deliveries of 2.6 million tons. This comes as critically low coal stocks, sufficient for less than three days, affected 96 power plants by October 19, up from 60 in mid-September. Disruptions from rains in mining areas and reduced hydropower due to El Niño have pressured coal-fired plants. Daily peak electricity demand has also surged by 45-50 gigawatts year-on-year due to hotter weather and increased industrial activity.
