The Supreme Court has stated that banks must compensate victims of digital fraud, especially in cases of digital arrests, with at least the amount lost if the fraud resulted from the bank's failure in due diligence. A bench, including Chief Justice Surya Kant, will examine the RBI's proposed KYC Amendment Directions, 2026, to ensure a regulatory framework for victim compensation. The court also reiterated the need for mandatory preventive measures like suspending unusual transactions and physical verification.
