Tribal Affairs Ministry Screens Over 73 Million for Sickle Cell Disease in 3 Years

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has screened over 73.1 million individuals for sickle cell disease in the last three years. This initiative targets indigenous communities, particularly in central and southern India, where the inherited blood disorder is prevalent. Data indicates 251,191 individuals were diagnosed with sickle cell disease, while over 2 million had the sickle cell trait. The National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission, launched in July 2023, aims for early diagnosis, genetic counselling, and specialised treatment in remote areas.

जनजातीय कार्य मंत्रालय ने पिछले तीन सालों में 73.1 मिलियन से ज़्यादा लोगों की सिकल सेल बीमारी के लिए जांच की है। इस पहल का लक्ष्य आदिवासी समुदायों, खासकर मध्य और दक्षिणी भारत में, जहाँ यह वंशानुगत रक्त विकार आम है, को लक्षित करना है। आंकड़े बताते हैं कि 251,191 लोगों में सिकल सेल बीमारी का पता चला, जबकि 2 मिलियन से ज़्यादा लोगों में सिकल सेल ट्रेट था। नेशनल सिकल सेल एनीमिया एलिमिनेशन मिशन, जिसे जुलाई 2023 में लॉन्च किया गया था, का उद्देश्य दूरदराज के इलाकों में शुरुआती निदान, आनुवंशिक परामर्श और विशेष उपचार प्रदान करना है।
