The UK government has decided to maintain the five-year settlement route for eligible overseas care workers, reversing a proposal that would have extended the waiting period. This decision is expected to benefit numerous Indian nationals who came to the UK on the Health and Social Care visa. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood confirmed that these workers, who arrived after the COVID-19 pandemic, will remain eligible for permanent settlement after five years. Indians represent the largest group of workers granted extensions under this visa category, with over 104,000 extensions issued.
