Hollie Tang, a California high school sophomore, has won the $10,000 IEEE Presidents’ Scholarship for 2026. She developed Tonguage, a camera-based system allowing individuals with movement disabilities to control computers and devices using tongue movements and eye blinks. This technology, which uses standard laptop cameras and no body sensors, can operate computers, wheelchairs, and robotic arms. Tang aimed to create an affordable alternative to expensive assistive equipment, addressing the needs of over one billion people globally living with disabilities.
