Pennsylvania Transformed Fire-Damaged Land Into Million-Tree Park

Times of India - India · india

Pennsylvania's Promised Land State Park, now a forested retreat, was once nearly bare land. Between 1902 and 1904, the state purchased this fire-damaged, logged property for as little as 18 cents per acre. Decades of replanting efforts followed, notably by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which planted over a million trees. This extensive restoration transformed the scarred landscape into one of Pennsylvania's most beloved parks, featuring lakes, trails, and campgrounds for public recreation.
