सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने केंद्र और दिल्ली पुलिस से कहा है कि घटनाओं के बाद प्रतिक्रिया देने के बजाय महिलाओं के खिलाफ अपराधों को रोकने को प्राथमिकता दें। एक बेंच ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि राष्ट्रीय राजधानी क्षेत्र में महिलाओं को रात 10 बजे पैदल चलते हुए या सार्वजनिक परिवहन का उपयोग करते समय सुरक्षित महसूस करना चाहिए। अदालत ने चेतावनी दी कि किसी भी प्रणाली की कमियों से अनजाने में आपराधिक गतिविधि को बढ़ावा नहीं मिलना चाहिए। शहर में सभी महिलाओं की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए सक्रिय अपराध रोकथाम पर ध्यान केंद्रित किया जाना चाहिए।
