China Forests Lose Carbon Uptake Momentum Early
Times of India - India · india
A study of China's Yellow River Basin found that planted forests are losing their carbon-sequestration momentum much earlier than expected. In over 80% of areas with expanded planted forests, annual net primary productivity shifted from increasing to declining within 15 years. For nearly half, this decline began within 10 years. Researchers attribute this trend to increasing drought and limited water availability, factors restricting long-term carbon gains in this dryland region.
