The Supreme Court has directed the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission to decide by Thursday whether to extend the nomination deadline for urban local body polls. This comes after allegations that candidates were prevented from filing nominations due to law and order issues. The court has asked the commission to defer the final candidate list publication until October 25 and to examine complaints of violence and obstruction. If the deadline is extended, candidates will receive at least 48 hours to file nominations.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने आंध्र प्रदेश राज्य चुनाव आयोग को गुरुवार तक यह तय करने का निर्देश दिया है कि शहरी स्थानीय निकाय चुनावों के लिए नामांकन की समय सीमा बढ़ाई जाए या नहीं। यह आरोप लगने के बाद आया है कि कानून और व्यवस्था की समस्याओं के कारण उम्मीदवारों को नामांकन दाखिल करने से रोका गया था। अदालत ने आयोग से अंतिम उम्मीदवार सूची के प्रकाशन को 25 अक्टूबर तक के लिए टालने और हिंसा और बाधा की शिकायतों की जांच करने को कहा है। यदि समय सीमा बढ़ाई जाती है, तो उम्मीदवारों को नामांकन दाखिल करने के लिए कम से कम 48 घंटे का समय मिलेगा।
