Tirupur Farmers to Launch Indefinite Hunger Strike on Oct 29

Farmers in Tirupur district will begin an indefinite hunger strike, demanding irrigation water for 1,500 acres through the Vellakovil branch canal under the Parambikulam–Aliyar Project (PAP). The association claims this tail-end land has been consistently denied water despite increased drawals from the Thirumoorthy dam. Farmers allege that while some canals draw more than sanctioned limits, their area receives insufficient supply, citing theft and losses as departmental excuses. They seek implementation of rotational supply and adherence to PAP Act and high court directives.

तिरुपूर जिले के किसान परंबिकुलम-अलियार प्रोजेक्ट (PAP) के तहत वेलकोविल ब्रांच कैनाल से 1,500 एकड़ के लिए सिंचाई पानी की मांग को लेकर अनिश्चितकालीन भूख हड़ताल शुरू करेंगे। एसोसिएशन का दावा है कि तिरुमूर्ति बांध से पानी की निकासी बढ़ने के बावजूद इस अंतिम छोर की भूमि को लगातार पानी से वंचित रखा गया है। किसानों का आरोप है कि कुछ नहरें स्वीकृत सीमा से अधिक पानी खींचती हैं, जबकि उनके क्षेत्र में अपर्याप्त आपूर्ति होती है, और विभाग चोरी और नुकसान को इसका बहाना बताता है। वे रोटेशनल सप्लाई के कार्यान्वयन और PAP एक्ट और उच्च न्यायालय के निर्देशों का पालन करने की मांग कर रहे हैं।
