US President Donald Trump has put on hold a law that would have allowed for 100% tariffs on India and four other nations for purchasing Russian oil. Trump informed Congress that this waiver is in the national interest of the United States. The law, which Trump had assented to on September 18, could have applied tariffs to the top five importers of Russian crude oil if they continued purchases 30 days after enactment. The president’s order pauses implementation before the 30-day period was set to conclude.

अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप ने रूस से तेल खरीदने वाले भारत और चार अन्य देशों पर 100% टैरिफ लगाने वाले कानून को फिलहाल रोक दिया है। ट्रंप ने कांग्रेस को बताया कि यह छूट संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका के राष्ट्रीय हित में है। यह कानून, जिस पर ट्रंप ने 18 सितंबर को सहमति दी थी, अगर शीर्ष पांच रूसी कच्चे तेल आयातकों ने कानून लागू होने के 30 दिन बाद भी खरीद जारी रखी तो उन पर टैरिफ लागू कर सकता था। राष्ट्रपति के आदेश ने 30 दिन की अवधि समाप्त होने से पहले इसके कार्यान्वयन को रोक दिया है।
