Orkut Founder Aims to Revive Social Media Site
Hindustan Times · technology
Orkut, a popular social media platform in India before Facebook's dominance, may be making a comeback. Its creator, Orkut Buyukkokten, has expressed a desire to revive the site, aiming to "make the internet human again." Launched by Google in 2004 after failing to acquire Friendster, Orkut initially garnered millions of users, even surpassing Facebook in numbers early on. However, Facebook's rapid growth led to Orkut's eventual shutdown in 2014, as Google shifted focus to platforms like YouTube and Blogger. Buyukkokten now seeks support for a new, human-centric social network.
