Nepal Receives $20 Million UN Aid After Devastating Floods
Mint · environment
Nepal is set to receive $20 million from the UN's climate loss and damage fund following devastating August floods that killed around 1,500 people and left over 5,000 missing. This allocation, however, covers less than 1% of the country's estimated reconstruction costs, raising questions about the adequacy of global climate finance for vulnerable nations. The Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage agreed to the emergency allocation, intended to address severe climate-related disaster damage. Nepal's total infrastructure losses are estimated at $2.7 billion, with recovery costs potentially exceeding $4.7 billion.
