Astronomers Discover Green Star 280 Light-Years Away
Times of India · science
Astronomers have identified a white dwarf star, WD J1330+6435, located approximately 280 light-years from Earth in the Draco constellation, which exhibits an unusual chartreuse-green hue. This distinct color is attributed to the interaction of sodium with helium under the star's intense atmospheric conditions, altering the light wavelengths it absorbs. This discovery challenges conventional understanding of stellar colors, suggesting that the chemical composition of a white dwarf's atmosphere can significantly influence its emitted light beyond typical orange, white, or blue. Researchers used spectral data and models to determine its appearance.
