India Eases Silver Import Curbs Ahead Of Diwali Festival
Business Standard · business
India's silver imports are poised for a rebound as the government has eased restrictions by issuing new permits, allowing up to 6,000 tonnes of silver shipments. These permits, valid for six months, are expected to meet demand during the upcoming Diwali festival season. New licensing requirements were introduced in May to preserve foreign-exchange reserves, which had previously caused imports to plummet. While demand is rising, it is not expected to match last year's levels, with premiums paid for silver likely to decrease.
