Serbian Mineral Jadarite Shares Chemical Link With Superman's Fictional Kryptonite

Times of India · science

A white mineral discovered in Serbia, named Jadarite, shares a near-identical chemical composition with Superman's fictional Kryptonite. First found in 2004, its similarity to the substance that weakens the superhero was noted in 2007. While not radioactive or green, scientists are now more interested in Jadarite's potential as a significant lithium source for electric vehicles in Europe. Researchers are studying its formation conditions to potentially locate more deposits, though local opposition has stalled mining efforts despite the large lithium quantity.
