62 Elephants in North Shahdol Raise Human-Wildlife Conflict Fears
Times of India · environment
North Shahdol forest division faces a significant challenge with 62 elephants now present across approximately one lakh hectares. A herd of 37 elephants from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve has joined 25 already in the area, raising concerns for the nearly 3.5 lakh people living in the region. The increased elephant population poses risks to both residents and animals, especially with illegal power lines threatening wildlife. Forest officials are increasing surveillance and coordinating with the electricity company to mitigate potential conflicts and ensure safety.
