Ten years ago, on September 28-29, 2016, Indian commandos crossed the Line of Control to strike terrorist launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This operation was a direct response to the Uri terror attack on September 18, 2016, which killed 19 Indian soldiers. The surgical strikes marked a new, assertive counter-terrorism approach by India. It was the first time India chose a calibrated military operation over traditional warfare. The government vowed that those responsible would not go unpunished.
