A study by the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure reveals that telecom towers in Assam and Tamil Nadu are highly vulnerable to cyclonic winds and flooding. In Tamil Nadu, 57% of 48,416 towers face high cyclonic wind risk, with major concentrations in Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur. Additionally, 33% of towers across the state are exposed to flooding. Assam's 18,388 towers show 83% in very high cyclonic wind zones and 43% in flood-prone areas. The assessment covered five high-risk states, highlighting the need for resilient infrastructure.
