Business Standard · business

The Indian government has officially begun the process to establish mineral exchanges across India, with the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) inviting applications from eligible companies. This follows the notification of the Mineral Exchange Rules, 2026, which provide a regulatory framework for these platforms. Commodity trading platforms already in operation will have six months to register. Initially, exchanges can trade in iron, chromite, bauxite, limestone, and manganese, with potential for expansion. The government aims for these exchanges to create a transparent and efficient mechanism for price discovery and dissemination.
