RBI Hikes Policy Repo Rate by 25 Bps, Shifts Stance to Calibrated Tightening
Business Standard · business
The Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee has raised the policy repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.5%, marking the first rate hike since February 2023. In a significant shift, the central bank also changed its policy stance from neutral to 'calibrated tightening'. This move is expected to increase Equated Monthly Instalments (EMIs) for retail and MSME loans, as they are often linked to the repo rate.
