Odisha Forms New Commission For OBC Political Representation Ahead Of Polls
Times of India · politics
Odisha has established a new commission to assess the political representation of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in local bodies. This move aims to comply with Supreme Court directives requiring a 'triple test' for reservation, including empirical data on backwardness and representation. The commission, led by retired judge Pramath Patnaik, has three months to gather data on the SEBC population and their political representation. This follows similar actions by states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, which have also formed commissions to implement OBC quotas in local elections.
